Welcome to the Friends Big Book Sale media toolkit! You’re here as a media partner, social media volunteer, or independent Friends supporter to help promote the 55th Annual Big Book Sale. Below are all the materials you need to get the word out about this unique San Francisco event. Helping us sell our 1/2 a million books and media we bring to Fort Mason every year helps raise money for the San Francisco Public Library.  Use content below as is or add your personalized message!

Our friends at the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library invite you to the 55th annual big book sale! This San Francisco tradition is back at Fort Mason, festival pavilion September 18 to the 22nd.

Every year the Fort Mason Festival overflows with bargain shoppers at the Big Book Sale, an iconic San Francisco tradition. Friends’ Members will kick off the sale Tuesday night at the Member Preview Sale and Reception, from 4-8PM. The sale opens to the public on Wednesday morning through Sunday. On Sunday, all books will be sold for just $1. All sections will be restocked daily with new and exciting finds; there will be no shortage of great titles. The multi-day event attracts over 10,000 book lovers from the Bay Area and beyond.

This family-friendly event features over 1/2 a million books and media of all kinds. Children’s books, board books, music books, history books, nonfiction books, art books, and a huge collection of vinyl are all available for $2-$4. There’s also a rare and collectible book section that is expertly curated if you’re looking for something more specific. 

Every year, there are amazing stories of people finding exciting books during the sale. One year someone found a hardcover first edition of To Kill a Mockingbird and bought it for just two dollars. You’ll never know what you’ll find!

Friends of the San Francisco Public Library is a non-profit dedicated to being the advocates, investors, and champions of the SFPL. Friends sells used and donated books to raise money for this cause. When you buy a book at the #BigBookSale, at a pop-up sale (like the weekly Library Step Sales), or at one of our @FriendsBookstores, that money goes towards making the SFPL even more amazing.

It’d be amazing if you could print out our Big Book Sale poster and put it up in your office common area, classroom, or your favorite shop around San Francisco!  This helps so much, and adds an important personal touch.

Friends of the SFPL's 55th Annual Big Book Sale is back this September! Take A Stand for libraries by sponsoring one or more table stands at the 2019 Big Book Sale, Friends largest event in support of our San Francisco Public Library. The Big Book Sale is the event of the year at Fort Mason Center, where we sell nearly 500,000 books priced from $2-$4.

When you Take A Stand, you get benefits all year long: four tickets to the Member Preview Reception for the Big Book Sale on Tuesday evening, September 17th; Friends’ monthly newsletter; invitations to all sorts of library and literary events. Use the attached registration form and email it to Kayla Velloso at [email protected], or register online at https://act.friendssfpl.org/donate. (Please make sure you use the designation pull down screen and choose “Take A Stand” for your donation). 
              
Think of this like sponsoring a walk or a ride. These are the stands positioned right in the middle of the endless tables piled high with exciting books.
