Director of Development

Position & Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Development is part of the senior management team and directs all development activities including institutional giving, individual major gifts, planned giving and member services. We are seeking an individual with a proven track record in all aspects of fundraising:

  • Bring to completion our very successful $16 million capital campaign, the Neighborhood Library Campaign.
  • Grow our comprehensive development efforts to raise annual operational and programmatic funding.
  • Lead a highly motivated development team resulting in measurable high performance and productivity.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with donors, volunteers, and staff members.
  • Partner with the senior management team in general management and strategic planning for the agency.
  • Oversee the creation and use of all development materials in collaboration with the Deputy Director.
  • Manage reporting and data systems related to development activity.
  • Lead the agency’s major donor retention efforts to ensure financial sustainability for the agency.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to support development efforts.

Qualifications:
  • Highly successful development track record. Senior management experience in capital campaigns and annual giving.
  • Experience with and comprehensive knowledge of the San Francisco-based philanthropic community.
  • Experience with and comprehensive knowledge of national foundations.
  • Proven success in a development management role with personal responsibility for the successful planning and execution of a high growth increase in revenue.
  • Professional experience contributing to an organization focused on service excellence.
  • The capacity to personally build, develop and retain strong, positive relationships with major donors, volunteers and staff.
  • Proven successful management of a broad range of individual, corporate and foundation solicitation programs.
