45th Annual Big Book Sale Sept. 24-27
Big Book Sale joins SF Reads
For the first time, Friends’ Big Book Sale will be a part of
SF Reads—a new city-wide collaboration that celebrates the written word and San Francisco’s thriving literary community.
Converging San Francisco’s three major literary events— SFPL’s One City One Book program; Litquake, the West Coast’s largest literary festival; and Friends’ Big Book Sale—SF Reads brings writers, books and readers together this fall like never before.
This September 24-27, 2009 marks our
45th Annual Big Book Sale, held at Fort Mason Center’s Festival Pavilion, and promises to be our biggest yet, with all books $5 or less. With our new 5,000 square-foot Donation Center open, our book operations have dramatically expanded, meaning more books at our sales and in the hands of readers.
Join us this fall for SF Reads and participate in San Francisco’s biggest literary extravaganza to dates with book sales, author readings, book groups and more.

Friends of the SFPL raised over in 2008 $265,000!
The 2008 Big Book Sale was our most successful sale to date, raising over $265,000 for education programs that promote literacy for children, teens and adults at the SFPL. Not only did we raise far more than our previous record of $250,000, but we did it this year selling the books for considerably less than previous years (all books were $5 and under)!
The 44th Annual sale had over 300,000 books and was held at Fort Mason Center’s Festival Pavilion on September 25—28, 2008 with a member preview on Wednesday, September 24. All proceeds from the sale benefit the San Francisco Public library.
